Maybe it was because of Covid and the lack of runway shows. Maybe, it was simply the fatigue of the world events taking its toll. Either way, it’s clear we haven’t had some solid trends circulate in a while. I’m happy to report that this will be changing this year and that’s why I’m bringing you all the spring 2022 fashion trends worth investing in.
This year, the fashion world has seriously adopted ’90s fashion and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Think short skirts, low waistlines and mesh making a comeback. Don’t worry though – some of last seasons favourites are back for another run too, such as blazers and corset tops. Since I’ve been working to revamp my wardrobe for the new season (and to recover from the boring last year), I thought I’d break down my favourite 2022 fashion trends.
You’ll notice that a lot of these work together. I think that’s what I like about fashion these days – there is a strong focus on restyling and repurposing, rather than buying. I feel like it’s fair to say that TikTok is to blame for this. Whatever the reason, I think the fashion world is slowly taking a step in the right direction and I’m here for it.
Platform Heels
Kicking the post of with the top shoe trend of 2022. Platform heels are definitely a trend for the adventurous, but I think they’re an easy shoe to style no matter the season. You can easily pair them with a mini skirt and corset or a dress for the springtime. If you’re like me and entering autumn, dress up a casual outfit with trousers and a bright coloured platform for autumn. All-in-all, they’re a fun way to make a statement this year.

Corset Tops
Corset tops are back for another season, but this time they’re more refined. Think straight lines, slimline fits and monochromatic colours. I have my eye on a few of the brown leather styles, but I also love this Miaou corset top with the logo print I’ve listed below. Chuck a blazer on, add some gold necklaces, and you’re good to go.

’90s Cargo Pants
Another nod to the ’90s, cargo pants are back baby and I can’t stop seeing on my TikTok feed. This is a trend that is easy to work into the wardrobe you already have. From a simple tee to a corset top, there are endless ways to make these work. If you’re still unsure, I’d recommend grabbing a neutral pair that match your sneakers.
Shop The Trend:
Colourful Shirts
Oversized shirts have easily become my favourite styling piece. Street style fashion has become basic lately, so throwing on a bright coloured shirt is a great way to add some life to an outfit. I have an orange linen shirt that was passed around my friends all summer. The key here is to buy a high-quality fabrication, such as linen, so that it lasts because you’ll no doubt be taking this to the beach and beyond.
Shop The Trend:
Low-Rise Pants
Another beauty coming back from the ’90s is low rise pants. I’m not going to lie, this one I love, but I can’t imagine a life where my pants don’t sit higher than my hips – but how good do they look on? If you’re anything like me, I say go for a softer fabric or a looser fit. There is nothing worse than feeling self-conscious after all.
Shop The Trend:
Knee High Boots
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know I just brought a pair of these, and what can I say, they’re BEAUTIFUL. I got the Tony Bianco Fantasy boots, and they’re made from the softest leather. What I love about them though is that the heel is low enough to walk on all day. I’m going to wear these with everything – from dresses and blazers, to under trousers. So, so good.
Shop The Trend:
Knitted Bandeau Tops
Another iteration of the corset is the more forgiving knitted bandeau. This is easily the most comfortable trend to try and looks amazing paired with simple trousers and a loafer shoe. It’s another trend I’ve already adopted into my wardrobe so I can promise you it’s worth it. Plus, they tend to be cheap now that most websites have some form of them for sale.
Shop The Trend:
Boxy Blazers
The bigger the better. Boxy blazers have been around a while now and they’re still going strong. This season it’s all about the oversized fit that retains its structure. Throw in some shoulder pads, and you have yourself a winner. In all seriousness, blazers have to be the best thing to invest in for the cooler months if you’re looking for a budget-friendly layering option. You can layer coats on top, merinos on the bottom and a pair of jeans for a simple street style fit. If you’re going into spring and summer, a t-shirt and denim cutoffs work too.
Shop The Trend:
Micro Mini Skirts
Many have tried and failed but Miu Miu brought the micro mini skirt trend back to life in a big way. Ever since their recent runway show, these have been popping up on my feed left, right and centre. This trend is more spring and summer-friendly because let’s face it, no tights are going to save your legs from freezing this winter. If you aren’t comfortable layering this with a cropped knit as they did in the runway show, try a waistcoat or a corset with a blazer layered over the top.
Shop The Trend:
Mesh Tops
As you can probably already tell, I gravitate towards the ’90s trends and there’s nothing more iconic than the printed mesh top. Before now, there hadn’t been much of an update on this trend. More recently, there have been so many colourful and mild animal prints that I can hop on board with. What I like about this is they often now come in matching sets, along with another one of my featured trends – the mini skirt.
