I feel a sense of pride coming home and seeing so many amazing kiwi fashion designers do so well. New Zealand definitely has its own thing going on in turns of fashion and influence, so I thought what better way to show this than featuring 5 of my 5 NZ fashion designers of the moment. Support your local girl gang – am I right ladies!?
Most of these babes are new on the block but they’ve already made huge waves both in NZ and internationally. Think sleek design, purposeful yet elegant, pops of colour and a hint of our laid back nature. You need to commit these labels to memory because it’s only a matter of time before they blow up big.
5 New Zealand Fashion Designers To watch
1. Georgia Alice
Georgia Alice has long been a favourite of mine and trust me when I say – if I had an unlimited income my wardrobe would be full of it. GA is known for minimal colour palettes, fresh silhouettes and an ultimate IT girl vibe. I’m kind of obsessed with the Memory Flare blazer and pants set from the collection above (top right). It’s already a favourite among celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Georgia Fowler which is no surprise. AW18 is about to drop and I can promise you it doesn’t disappoint!
2. REBE
I couldn’t do this list without mentioning my friend Rebe because she’s an absolute talent. Rebe started her namesake label with a line of beautifully crafted hats and has recently added the (über sleek and lust worthy) Studio Boot to the mix. Her pieces are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
3. Maggie Marilyn
With bold colour choices and atypical silhouettes, Maggie Marilyn is anything but boring. I particularly love the use of red and pink together in this collection (a personal design favourite of mine) and that yellow striped pant = what dreams are made of. Definitely a kiwi designer to watch!
4. Penny Sage
Penny Sage kind of reminds me of that vintage meets new age type vibe and I’m totally here for it. That lime jacket is gorgeous and I’m obsessed with the contrast stitching used in this collection. If you’re into Lisa Says Gah and the likes this is definitely a label you need to check out!
5. Paris Georgia
Last but certainly not least – Paris Georgia. I’ll start by saying that I’ve been eyeing the Marnie Top and Terri Jacket for a while now and I’m totally going to cave and buy one. Paris Georgia is like minimal meets vintage inspired cool in the best possible way. Plus, look at those colours! Yummy.
That wraps it up for my 5 fashion designers to watch from New Zealand. I’m going to leave you here to browse because I’m probably the worst possible describer of collections, so do yourself a favour and check them out. I’d also love to hear if you have any NZ favourites in the comments below for me to check out too.
