Trends come and go but black is forever – right? Black is a completely fail-safe option when you have 10 minutes before you need to run out the door. It’s sophisticated and you look like you mean business. Trust me, it’s my “I’m being lazy” go-to.
Wearing all black can tend to look a little bland, so here’s how I like to spice up that monochromatic outfit so you look anything but. Plus, most of these you’ll already have in your house so no breaking the bank. Win-win.
1. Bling, Bling, Girlfriend
Jewellery has to be number one for me. I feel so incomplete without earrings, or a necklace and I’ll never be caught without rings. These look particularly great paired with black since they stand out so much more. Chuck on some rings, or a pair of statement earrings and you’re good to go.
I’m wearing Au Revoir Les Filles Lumiere Pave Necklace & Celestial Necklace layered with my Dazie Avila Dress. Guys, I’m obsessed with this jewellery brand! They make the most delicate, yet statement pieces – you can see this little lightening bolt from miles away because of the diamonds. I think simple yet attention grabbing pieces are the perfect complement for an all black outfit.
2. A Pop of colour
Newsflash: you need coloured boots in your life! Take a cue from Lucy William’s wardrobe and pair red boots with your black outfit. It’s a great way to make your outfit more interesting while running out the door. I love that there are so many awesome prints to try to – from floral to animal prints. This trend is definitely my favourite of the moment, so I’ve put together some of my favourites for you to shop below.
3. Say it with your face
Whether it be a classic red lip, a copper smoky eye or bronzed glowing skin, black suits everything. The great thing about wearing all black is that you can really have fun with your make up. I love looking at Ania Milczarczyk’s Instagram for beautiful make up inspiration. Mixing it up with a dark burgundy lip or a brown smokey eye for a smouldering night out look is just that much more dramatic while wearing no colour. Plus, it always takes me so long to get my make up right I don’t have time to think about my outfit. These are my top choices:
So there you have it, my top 3 tips to making black less boring. Honestly, a little pop of colour or bling can go a long way with your monochromatic outfit. You can’t really go wrong which is why I love it so much!
