Each year when winter rolls around I get bored of dressing. Unless I’m going somewhere special, any pair of clean comfy trousers and oversized coat will do. Instead of making an effort with what I wear, I get creative with makeup. Since coming back from Wanaka over isolation I have loved pulling out all the palettes that have been packed away for a rainy day and swapped my usual products for a whole new line up.
I’m lucky enough to have a huge collection of Mecca products stored up, including a heap of NARS. NARS has long been a go-to beauty brand of mine, ever since Sheer Glow was a ‘new’ cult favourite among beauty bloggers years ago. My best friend used to manage one of the stores and needless to say, she schooled me on what works and what doesn’t. NARS yes, MAC not so much. Unless it’s lipstick or eyeshadow of course. Whenever I’m looking to gain a healthy glow it’s the first brand I search for. Anything from their moisturising foundation (Sheer Glow is still a top favourite of mine) to their lipgloss, no matter what your face needs this brand has a glowy product for the job.
On My Face:
Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff
Nars Climax Mascara
Nars Orgasm Blush
Nars Soft Matte Concealer in Cannelle
ABH Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette
Nars Oil-Inflused Lip Tint in Orgasm
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation
Hourglass Brow Pencil
(For NZ readers you can get Glossier here and everything else at Mecca Cosmetica)
Since I’m super pale during this time of year I try to reach for products that will give me a popping flush. Especially since bronzer doesn’t quite hit the same as it does in summer. NARS has a full range of products in their famous Orgasm shade which is a pretty pink with gold reflects. Their blush and lip tint that I’ve used for this look are a must to bring your face back to life. I layered their blush here with Glossier’s Puff Cloud Paint to make sure it lasts all night (my blush tends to wear off quickly otherwise). I always reach for Orgasm in particular because the gold reflects double as a highlighter. What can I say – I’m a huge fan.
To finish off this look I went with a monochrome eye. Orange has long been a favourite of mine unless I’m going for a smokey eye. It makes blue eyes pop and is hard to mess up AKA perfect when you only have 10 minutes to get ready. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glow palette has a heap of beautiful warm shades, so I played with Orange Soda, Glistening and Burnt Orange for this look. I have to confess, I lost my favourite NARS eyeshadow palette after I took it to Europe last year otherwise it would also be included. Add a bit of NARS Soft Matte concealer and Climax mascara and ta-da.
In other news, I finally have decent lighting at home so I’m going to be shooting a lot more beauty content this season. I’m currently working through my skincare rotation trying to relieve my dry, weather ambushed skin. However that goes will be next up for the beauty posts. If there’s anything you’d like me to share please let me know below and I’ll make it happen.
