We all know that Barbie has brought back pink in a BIG way. But since then, the hype as died down and we’ve gone from Strawberry Girl to Tomato Girl Summer in a flash. Needless to say, one colour has taken out pink in this battle – and that’s a pop of red.
(Also, what is with all the fruit based trend names?)
There’s something about red. It’s complicated. It can be so completely elegant but daring, and at the same time, sexy. The French do it so well, but how do you embrace it while still keeping it classy?
While it can seem like a bold, statement colour at first, there are so many subtle ways to enjoy it without being overwhelming. From the simplest of pop of red on your nails to a pair of red shoes, it’s all about finding something that works for you. Personally, I can’t apply red lipstick to save myself, so accessories is what I’ll be gravitating towards this season.
If you’re looking to try giving the pop of red fashion trend a go in 2023, here are some of my favourite ways I’ve seen floating around the internet. From stylish red ballet flats to the daring red lace dress, it’s all about finding something you’re comfortable with. If all else fails – maybe you’ll have better luck with a red lipstick than I have?
Satin Dress & Red Ballet Flats
Ballet flats, as we all know, are another trend that’s making a comeback – and why not make them red? Sometimes I find wearing red can be quite polarising, but this is an easy way to jump on the red shoes trend. I really like how this all ties together with a subtle pop of red – the lips, the nails and the ballet flats (the number one trending red shoes). It’s an easy introduction to wearing red for the faint hearted. Add a satin slip dress, gold jewellery, a glass of wine and you’re good to go.

Peasant Blouse & Red Midi Skirt
Isn’t this look so Spanish? Somewhere in between the previous look and the next is this: the red satin skirt. A satin skirt and white blouse is nothing out of the ordinary. Especially because I’ve already featured this With Jean blouse on my blog already as a piece you need this season. So, making you satin skirt a red one just adds a little drama to the look. NET-A-PORTER has some great options too—plus, you can get 20% off now for a limited time.

Red Lace Maxi Dress
Alright, this ones not for the faint hearted. If anything, this one is made for those who don’t mind the extra attention. This would be such a beautiful piece to wear on holiday throughout Europe, from Grecian dinners to partying in Ibiza. Whatever your vibe is, with a good set of underwear underneath this is a HOT statement to wear in some hot weather.

Red Rosette Halter Top
This is another one that was made for the European summer. It’s so easy to style with skirts, shorts or – if you’re in colder weather like me – a pair of jeans. It’s such a beautiful shade that it would be hard to find someone that wouldn’t look good in this. Plus, I love the little rosette for a little added romance.

As we look ahead to the 2023 summer season, red is set to be the hottest shade. Strawberry girl, tomato girl; whichever aesthetic you like, this ones for you. Whether it’s a champagne satin dress paired with stylish red ballet flats, a red satin skirt and white peasant blouse for an edgy look or the daring red lace maxi dress, there are plenty of ways to try this trend before the summer is over. Personally, I think it’s going to be jumping on the red shoes trend for me – but a pop of red lipstick works too.
