The maxi dress was never my friend. They cover my legs (which, I like to show off if I’m being honest), they fell like a sack from my boobs and I never understood how people looked so elegant in them. This year as the temperatures dropped during Autumn I was determined to give them one last shot. Especially after seeing how good they looked on Jessie here from We The People. I’m happy to report the maxi dress and I are now at the very least acquaintances. Here are my tips to making it your friend too.
Wearing: H&M Maxi, Zara Blazer, Nike Sneakers, Sunglasses (Similar here)
1. Pick your print
Forget spring, florals make maxi dresses look super elegant and are so much more interesting than a mono-coloured dress. These are my choices this season:
2. Pair it with a blazer
The shape of the blazer will give your body more shape, especially if the maxi doesn’t have a waistband. I think a pop of colour is always a nice touch like this pink number, but any slim fit blazer will do.
3. Add a belt
Adding a belt is a classic maxi dress styling piece. To avoid the boho vibe, I’d add a bigger belt, maybe even crocodile skinned or printed to give it a little extra.
4. Add Relaxed statement accessories
My last tip would to be to add relaxed statement accessories. This is anything from a cool baker boy hat, to white sneakers or even oversized gold hoops. Pieces that make it look less like you’ve raided your Nana’s wardrobe and more “I woke up this cool”.
