Hello Spring! September marks a change of season and a change of wardrobe. I think we all know by now how much I’ve been craving warmer weather and it’s all up hill from here. Yes to skirts and goodbye rain. To embrace the change I’ve spent the weekend packing away my heavier knits and bringing back out t-shirts and lighter layers.
Now that I work full-time again I’ve been enjoying the variety that comes with having to dress yourself in the morning. Freelance life was more like couch life in PJs. Luckily for me, I can basically wear anything to work as its casual dress. I actually can’t imagine working in a corporate company simply because I’d have nothing to wear. NOTHING. I know a lot of you can’t do this though so here’s my spin on styling work wear this season. My kind of “corporate girl has a fancy dinner after work and doesn’t want to look boring” guide.
I’ve teamed up with Forever New to share with you these looks, featuring pieces from their new work wear range. I wanted to put together something all you NZ girls could get your hands on since we know what international shipping prices are like. Let’s not even mention shipping delays. So here are outfits you can literally get the same day you see them – crazy right!? I know. Let’s get into it.
Outfit One:
Clueless Meets Corporate
I have to admit, this was not an obvious choice to me. I’ve loved the old school plaid look for ever but didn’t think I could really pull it off. I don’t feel fancy enough, you know? But I bit the bullet and now we’re here and I’m so into it.
I love a good matching set – especially a blazer, skirt combination. I’m really into this Chanel type of plaid that each piece has which is definitely what it reminds me of.
They’re thick enough to wear in spring without getting cold and can be dressed up with a white shirt (which I know you already have) or down with a simple white tee (which I know you already have too).
This worn together has such Clueless vibes to it – you know, that iconic yellow plaid skirt and jacket combo that will NEVER get old. I like that because the combination together can be fun rather than looking like you just chose the first two matching pieces you could find. Plus, you can leave the jacket open to make it more casual, or buttoned shut for those important meetings.
I think it all comes down to the accessories whether you could take this from work to drinks with the girls. Spice it up with heels or chuck on some oversized earrings.

And you know what, it makes me feel fancy.
Outfit Two:
Suit Meets Spring
You guys know I love a good blazer. I literally own about 8 different styles now I’m that into them. So it comes as no surprise that for my work wear look I’d chose to style a blazer.
This one is perfect for spring because I feel like you could easily wear this to work, and then over a dress during the weekend. It’s just one of those styles that is super handy to have in your wardrobe and I find Forever New’s blazers are one of my favourite fits.
I paired it with a crop top to give it a more interesting silhouette. I think wearing this buttoned to work (hiding your stomach, duh) looks professional. Then unbuttoned, with statement earrings, for a more high-fashion look at your after work drinks.
In true working girl style, I am also wearing a pair those classic work pants. You know – the kind of stretchy, very basic and slightly structured. I really like these ones because the high waist gives you versatility when it comes to styling. Plus, they have big pockets and are super comfy.
Depending on your daily work wear situation you can totally make this work for you. Even just swapping out the crop for the classic shirt and the slides for boots will make it perfectly conservative. As they say, “You do you, honey.”
